I've Got

SALSA FEVER!...

...incurable & contagious...

If you've got Salsa Fever too, this site is for you!

My husband, Kenny & I have been dancing for about 6 years now. He learned to dance Salsa while stationed in Pusan, Korea with the Air Force. It happened that Louis Jackson, Salsa instructor from The Impact Zone in Lawton, Oklahoma was also stationed in Pusan, Korea with the Army. Luis volunteered to teach a group of military & civilians together at the dining facility on Tuesday & Thursday evenings. They pushed the tables & chairs out of the way & turned up the Salsa to pass the time! They also went out to some Korean Salsa Clubs together on the weekends. (The level of dancers there is phenomenal!) Thank you Louis for getting Kenny started! As for myself, I started with "Cardio Salsa" aerobics classes & then became interested in Salsa dancing with a partner. I took a few informal lessons with a friend, and could do the basic steps with Kenny after he returned from his year in Korea. We started taking the basic class at Mangos with Henry, and From there, we signed up to take Casino Rueda classes with Hazel Lopez and Anton Coleman (International Dance Studio - AKA "I-Dance"). I had seen a Miami club scene in the movie "Dance With Me" & I really wanted to learn that style of Salsa. Kenny & I are both group fitness instructors, so the music & the counts & the memorization of patterns came easily to us. Soon, we were invited to join the Salsa Performance Team from I-Dance. We enthusiastically joined in & started learning choreography that we would be performing at the Arts Festivals, Cinco De Mayo Festival, May Fair in Norman, etc... The performance team was FUN and a great learning experience for us. We enjoyed it a lot and made some really good friends on the team too! I would like to thank Hazel, Anton, Henry, & all the "I-Dance" crew for helping to "infect" us with "Salsa Fever!" We regularly attend instructor training workshops & Salsa Conventions & we went to Miami for the 2005 Salsa Rueda Convention where we got some awesome training from some of the leading experts in the Salsa world - Edie "The Salsa Freak", Henry Herrera, Billy Fajardo, Katie Marlow, and more! We go out to Salsa dance almost every Friday night now (usually at Mangos) and we are teaching classes regularly at The Oklahoma City Swing Dance Club on Wednesday nights & Saturday afternoons. (Click here for a class schedule.)

I have created this website as an extension to our Oklahoma page on the world-wide Salsaweb. I wanted more room to "spread out" and be able to have lots of pictures & stories to share. If you have photos or some news that you would like to share, please e-mail them to me.

Thanks!
